Our journey to justice for workers

Discover the personal story and unwavering commitment behind Accommodation Rights. Learn how lived experience fuels our mission to support workers facing disability and mental health challenges.

The inspiration behind Accommodation Rights

Accommodation Rights was founded from my direct experience navigating workplace accommodation processes that often felt unclear, delayed, and inconsistent. Over time, I witnessed how easily workers—especially those dealing with injury, disability, or mental health challenges—can be overlooked or misunderstood within systems designed to support them.

My journey involved facing negligence, discrimination, ignorance, and unfair practices while trying to understand and access proper accommodations. The process was not just challenging; it was isolating and often left people without clear guidance or meaningful support when they needed it most.

Through these experiences, I realized how many others were enduring similar situations without a clear voice, direction, or accessible information. This is what led me to create Accommodation Rights: to help bridge that gap by providing awareness, education, and support so people do not have to navigate these systems alone or in silence.

Our passion for advocacy and change

What drives this work is having seen, first-hand, how difficult it can be for workers with disabilities or health-related limitations to be taken seriously and supported in a fair and timely way. When accommodation processes are delayed, misunderstood, or handled inconsistently, the impact extends far beyond the workplace—it affects people’s dignity, stability, and overall well-being.

That experience created a strong sense of responsibility to help others avoid going through the same uncertainty alone. It’s not just about awareness, but about making information clearer, reducing confusion, and helping people feel more confident in understanding their rights and options when facing these challenges.

With Accommodation Rights, the goal is to contribute to a system where accommodation is treated as a normal, respected part of the workplace—not something people have to struggle to justify. We hope to encourage fairness, improve understanding, and support better outcomes through education.

Unique expertise in accommodation rights

What I bring to Accommodation Rights is primarily lived experience combined with a deep, practical understanding of how complex and difficult accommodation processes can be for workers to navigate.

Having personally gone through the challenges of delayed responses, unclear communication, and inconsistent application of accommodation expectations, I developed a strong awareness of the gaps that exist between policy and what people actually experience in real situations. This has helped me understand not just the formal side of the process, but also the human impact it has on workers dealing with disability, injury, or mental health conditions.

Alongside that, I’ve built knowledge through researching workers’ rights, human rights principles related to accommodation, and the general processes people may encounter when trying to advocate for themselves. I focus on breaking this information down into clear, accessible language so it’s easier for people to understand and use in real life situations.

What I try to do is empower individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to advocate effectively for their rights and achieve fair and dignified outcomes.

"Accommodation Rights provided invaluable support during a very challenging time. Their guidance was clear, compassionate, and truly made a difference in my case."
